Friends this episode of Freshly Brewed could not have come at a more perfect time! A few weeks after an epic weekend at Frassati Fest and a couple weeks into Lent, Doug and Lindsay talk through the steps of how to pray! Inspired by a book called Prayer Primer, the two discuss how to spend time in prayer and how these steps help us build a relationship with Jesus!
7 steps of prayer:
Pick a time and place
We cannot pray “at all times” if we do not pray at specific times. CCC 2697
Remember the presence of the person you are spending time with.
Transition your attention from the world to prayer by focusing on a simple line or two such as:
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Lord Jesus.
God, come to my assistance. Oh Lord, make haste to help me.
Input: Read something that teaches you about who Jesus is, the lives of the saints, etc.
Sacred Scripture – Gospels/Letters of Saint Paul
Imitation of Christ, Thomas Dubay, Father Jacques Philippe
Apply these readings to your life, ponder, draw conclusions, and remember that you are talking about this with Jesus Himself. Be real with Jesus!
“My daughter…why do you not tell me about everything that concerns you, even the smallest details? Tell Me about everything, and know that this will give Me great joy. I answered, But You know about everything, Lord.” And Jesus replied to me, “Yes I do know; but you should not excuse yourself with the fact that I know, but with childlike simplicity talk to Me about everything, for my ears and heart are inclined towards you, and your words are dear to Me.” -St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in my Soul
Make a resolution.
“To reform. Every day a little. This has to be your constant task if you really want to become a saint.” ― Saint Josemaría Escrivá, The Way
Let us thank God for His priceless gift! – St. Paul
